Places and Spaces, 18.5 x 18.5, colored pencil and topographic maps, January 2019
I recently moved from the home where I grew up, a neighborhood in the country, to a condo downtown. These surroundings are quite different- one is very rural, with farms and rivers and cows; and the new environment is very urban.. I decided to depict this difference using the Wisconsin state capitol building as a symbol for urban life, a well-known landmark of my city, and a map of rural Wisconsin as a collage for this building, showing the dependent relationship between city and countryside.
