Ethan DeLair, “Manufacturing the Dream”. 17”x17”, June 2019
On the theme of home, I depicted the manufacturing of American society's expectation of home, namely a suburban house with a garage and white picket fence, all identical. The houses are made on an automated conveyer belt, a staple of the American industrial era, but also a cold and robotic way to make something a concept so personal as a home. Fog surrounds the process, reflecting the unknown, distant way society sets expectations. The wires and pipes exist to add to the cold and impersonal sense.
